as half of heltah skeltah, 1/8 of the boot camp clik, and with a successful solo career in his own right, sean price (brooklyn, ny) had a cult-like following, releasing critically acclaimed projects such as ‘monkey barz,’ ‘jesus price supastar,’ and ‘mic tyson.’ sadly, sean price passed away in his brooklyn apartment in august of 2015. the entire music community has since been grieving his untimely death, though the release of this 30-track mixtape, now available on vinyl offers an opportunity for fans and friends alike to celebrate the life and career of the storied mc.

for their tenth release, voodoo down has again chosen to debut a new act to add to their label roster. andy harper and nic ford have been making music together for over a decade but began releasing in earnest under the name maddermodes in 2014 on their own label, shift coordinate points. they have since put out records on the labels millions of moments and night drive music. their handful of releases have already drawn support from top names like move d and nick höppner, and its clear that the duos sound is only getting more refined with each successive record. the ep entitled emprical evidence is a wholly cinematic piece of work, spread across four tracks that unravel slowly, unified by a theme of pumping syncopated rhythms under sprawling pad and string progressions. its easy to get lost in the thick arrangements, and the inventive use of samples and melodic elements invite repeat listening. equally suitable for early morning hours, ultra-deep techno sets, or quiet home listening sessions.

on the first side rumore and orphidal are opening the release with a 115 bpm proto-ambient track filled with liquid grooves and tribal elements while in the second cut they are showing us their faster and deep-acid side with conversations.
on the other surface autre is killing it with filter sessions 329, a mental techno trip did while experimenting with his new filter bank, an 808 and a juno 106. the b2 is an elegant track with a fred p-esque touch, suitable for every kind of dance floor.

the sophomore ep by label head n conduit. the name and inspiration for the pumps ep is derived from new yorks infamous strip club, pumps. located on the border of queens and brooklyn on the english kills canal, its one of the last holdouts of seedy and unkempt brooklyn, now that the high rises and artisanal establishments have taken over. the pumps ep consists of three original tracks and a remix that are supposed to capture whats left of this through raw analog sequences and drum programming.
